A jersey cow is seen poking her nose out toward a group of UW-Madison students visiting Gil-Bar Jerseys in Janesville, Wis. during a class field trip. The visit allows students in the class Dairy Science 205: Dairy Cattle Selection a firsthand opportunity to learn about the methodology and art of dairy cattle judging. The class, taught by Ted Halbach (pictured in red jacket), a senior outreach specialist in the Department of Dairy Science in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, gives students an introduction to the major breeds, evaluation methods and competitive judging of dairy cattle.
