Wisconsin’s agricultural production and food processing sectors contributed $116.3 billion in industrial revenues in 2022, according to a UW study. That’s more than 14% of the state’s total and nearly an 11% increase from 2017. The rise in revenues came despite a decline in the number of farms — from 64,793 to 58,521 — during the same period.

The study, conducted by professor and extension specialist Steven Deller and assistant professor Jeffrey Hadachek in the Department of Agricultural and Applied Economics, is based on data from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s most recent census.
